FP Extensions & PWS Questions

Security Settings Greyed Out

If you find (while editing you local web) that your security settings are greyed out, this is usually because you are using PWS or IIS version 4. This is normal, as you cannot set permissions on your local web using these web servers.

However, if you open your published web with FP, then you can access your security settings there as normal, providing your ISP's server is not NT.  If their server is NT, then you need to contact your ISP to set permissions for you.

FP2000 - Where did PWS Go ?

Unlike FP98, FP2000 does not ship with a personal web server. If you are upgrading from FP98 to 2000 then you can use your existing web server, although this is very limited. It is best that both new and upgrade users obtain the latest versions of PWS from one of the following :

  • Windows 98 users - On MS Windows 98 CD in ":\windows\options\cabs\pws\"

  • Windows NT users - NT Service Pack

Please ensure that you download and install the correct PWS for your operating system and requirements.

PWS and Windows Millennium Edition

Many people have purchased or upgraded to Windows 2000 ME, only to find problems getting a PWS to install and run.  This is because ME was not designed to run a PWS, and therefore doesn't support one.
